Andrea Popović (b. 1993) is a Swiss artist of Balkan heritage based in Zurich. Working across sculpture, painting, drawing, and film, his practice is driven by an enduring curiosity about people and the ways they move through the world.
We exist in social layers. Between public and private, confidence and vulnerability, intimacy and performance, we continuously shape perceptions of ourselves. Popović is drawn to these in-between spaces, where certainty dissolves and something more honest quietly emerges. His work lingers on moments of recognition, fleeting instances where gestures, expressions, and encounters reveal something beyond what is immediately visible.
A single image, object, or situation can suggest a much larger reality. Whether working through sculpture, painting, or film, Popović is interested in the emotional landscapes contained within ordinary moments: the tension between who we are, how we are perceived, and the stories we construct around ourselves. Beauty, for him, exists equally in simplicity and drama, in a carefully composed image, an unspoken gesture, or a fleeting expression.
Drawing has remained his most instinctive language since childhood. The medium itself is never the starting point; each work finds the form it requires. Beyond his own practice, Popović shares this approach through teaching, working with students in institutional and private settings and exploring drawing and painting as tools for observation, communication, and personal expression.
Popović studied Animation Production at Arts University Bournemouth before completing an MA in Film Directing at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). His work has been exhibited in Switzerland and internationally.
